Since its inaugaration in 2000, Open That Bottle Night has become a global phenomenon and is celebrated every year on the last Saturday of February.

Everyone loves a good reason to open a special bottle and enjoy it with loved ones. Whatever the reason, Dorothy J. Gaiter and John Brecher knew it should be marked as an international holiday.

Who are the minds behind Dorothy and John? Dorothy J. Gaiter and John Brecher conceived and wrote The Wall Street Journal’s weekly wine column, “Tastings,” from 1998 to 2010. They first met and fell in love at The Miami Herald in their first day out of college on June 4, 1973. They have appeared regularly in TV and radio, are currently senior editors at Grape Collective and authors of four wine books.

Domaine Carneros Employees Open That Bottle Night

Four Ways to Celebrate!

As a sparkling rosé fan year-round, I look forward to the release of our Le Rêve Rosé each year. I recently enjoyed it with my partner when trying a new recipe for dinner, followed by our own Paint & Sip night at home. I always save the cork and date it when opening a special bottle of Domaine Carneros bubbly! - Madalyn Elliott, Marketing Assistant – Marketing

Famous Gate Pinot Noir has been my favorite ever since I joined the Production team seven years ago. It’s our most prestigious Pinot Noir that I enjoy with close friends and family. I love pairing it with lamb chops, on its own, and enjoy it with the Wood Oven Smoked Duck from Mustards Grill. - Ulises Navarrete, Cellar Worker – Production

The Late Disgorged Brut Rosé is my favorite because the color is soft and beautiful, yet the flavors are pronounced. Its characteristics with peach preserves, pie crust and a lingering finish make it well suited for food and wine pairings. I love pairing this wine with shrimp scampi. - Edna Pacheco, VC Assistant Manager – Visitor Center

My bottle of choice is our 2017 Ultra Brut! I really like ultra brut because of its crisp and dry flavor - it goes great with seafood like crab, poke, oysters and my favorite, sushi. I bring it with me whenever I go fishing in Bodega Bay. Its persistent, palate-cleansing finish lingers on making it irresistible. - Corey Marron, Server – Visitor Center
